A lecture by Semyon Yakerson on Jewish manuscripts will take place on September 6 at 19:30 at 19 Allenby Street, Tel Aviv. Admission: 70 shekels.
Dr. Semyon Yakerson, a Hebraist, historian of Jewish books, and our beloved lecturer, has just published a new book, On Jewish Manuscripts. It reconstructs the history of ten unique Jewish manuscripts from the 10th–17th centuries and reveals the stories of dozens of people who preserved them—sometimes risking their lives—and made them part of world culture.
At Semyon Yakerson’s new lecture celebrating the book’s publication, we will discuss the earliest dated biblical codices, the earliest surviving manuscript of the complete text of the Babylonian Talmud, and other astonishing examples of manuscripts. We will also talk about the monks and rabbis, Karaites and Muslims—in short, all those thanks to whom these manuscripts have survived to this day.
