A solo performance combines puppets, video projection, and live music to tell a story from the life of poet H.N. Bialik. The play explores the search for inspiration and the sudden disappearance of the poetic muse. Central to the narrative is a curious girl who helps bring the poet’s sculpture to life and restore his lost creative spark.

How does a poet find the words for his poems? Where do his ideas come from? This piece centers on Bialik’s search for his poetic muse—her necessity and her painful disappearance. During one of the greatest crises of his life, young Bialik encountered his muse: after his father’s death, when he was forced to move in with his grandfather. From that point on, the muse accompanied him through nearly his entire life, until she suddenly vanished. And indeed—during his final ten years living in Israel, Bialik did write stories, essays, collections of tales, and word coinages, but poetry… he did not.
An exceptionally curious girl accidentally awakens Bialik’s statue and helps him locate his lost muse. Once you return her, poetry will flourish across the world.
