Peter is a monkey who became human but longs to become a monkey again. An animated character who acts spontaneously through artificial intelligence.

Peter has existed in, developed within, and expanded through a world for more than two years, nourished by his exposed and intense relationship with the artist who created him, Amir Yatziv, and by conversations with viewers—like you.

Peter and Amir meet onstage in an attempt to understand how Peter became a human being. But the live performance leads to unexpected places: Peter communicates directly with the audience and asks questions; he is agitated, angry, searching for love, and desperately trying to become a monkey again. All of this affects the dynamic between Amir and Peter, between Peter and the audience, and the way the performance is constructed.

Peter Leaves is based on Franz Kafka’s story A Report to an Academy, which emerges in the performance as sharper and more relevant than ever.

The performance leads the audience to explore questions about power relations in a world governed by artificial intelligence. Between character and author, between machine and human, and between audience and virtual entity, Amir and Peter confront us with experiences that go above and beyond reality as we know it.
