This lecture offers a critical, humorous, and moving perspective on Israeli identity through Ze’ev Engelmayer’s body of work.
Throughout the lecture, we will explore central themes that directly correspond with the exhibitions on display at the museum: how trauma is transformed into artistic memory; the deconstruction and reconstruction of the collective ethos and the broken Israeli home; a behind-the-scenes look at the persona of Shoshke as a tool for exploring identity, gender, and protection; and representations of the local landscape and nature as spaces of scars alongside growth and hope.
The lecture sketches a portrait of who we are here and now, amid chaos, beauty, and the search for peace of mind.
Ze’ev Engelmayer is an artist, illustrator, activist, and Shoshke, and the creator of the “Daily Postcard” project. Winner of the Dror Award for Social Change, 2025. Ranked 100th on the list of Israel’s 100 most influential people.
