We will learn about the properties of the raw material, woodworking joints, and how to paint correctly. We will plan and manufacture a finished product—a bench, coffee table, or butcher block—that each participant will take home. We will work with hand and power tools. Participants will be given creative freedom to choose the material, color, and appearance.

About the Instructor

Ariel Yulzari, an industrial and management engineer, connected with woodworking from the heart. He has been creating and teaching woodworking for over 20 years.

Cancellation Policy

• Cancellation from the time of registration until 14 business days before the workshop begins: full refund.
• Cancellation or date change fewer than 14 business days before the workshop begins: no refund will be given.

Use of the equipment is conditional upon reading the safety instructions and signing an acknowledgment with the on-site safety officer.

Safety Instructions at the Makers Center

The safety rules apply to all users of the facility and are intended to protect your health.

Use of the tools is conditional upon receiving an explanation from the on-site instructor.

Do not eat, drink, or use mobile phones in the work areas.

Please ensure that all work areas and machines are clean and orderly at all times.

Have a pleasant and enjoyable time.

• Special health issues must be reported to the workshop supervisor.
• Children and people with disabilities may enter with advance approval and under the responsibility of their accompanying person.
• A first-aid kit and defibrillator are located in the lobby.

Clothing and Protective Equipment

Entry is permitted only in safety clothing: tied-back hair, trousers, and long-sleeved shirts.

Do not work while wearing jewelry, loose clothing, or scarves: bracelets, long necklaces, dangling earrings, rings with gemstones or any protrusion on the ring. Wedding bands are permitted.

Closed shoes must be worn, preferably with leather uppers. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.

Work on the machines must be carried out with personal protective equipment, as specified beside each machine.

Use of Machines and Materials

It is forbidden to operate the machines without approval and authorization from the workshop supervisor!

It is forbidden to connect a machine that has been disconnected from the power supply without approval from the workshop supervisor!

Do not handle technical or electrical malfunctions; report them to the workshop supervisor.

Incorrect use of the machines may cause serious injury! You must know the safety instructions associated with their operation and exercise extra caution.

The Municipal Woodworking Shop machines are not for use by the general public.

Machine Operating Procedures

Circular Table Saw for Wood

(without a carriage and without a blade guard)

This saw may be operated only by a trained workshop staff member.

Avoid applying excessive pressure to the raw material, due to the risk of losing control and having a hand hit by the saw.

Hearing protection and safety glasses must be worn when working with the saw.

Suitable push sticks and all other protective equipment must be used to prevent the saw from injuring body parts.

Do not stand in line with the blade, as the cutting blade moves toward the operator.

Before operating the saw, make sure that the blade is not touching any other part, including the operator.

Before operating the machine, make sure that the work surface is clear of tools and wood chips.

Raise the blade above the work surface only when the saw is operating and rotating.

Do not leave the machine area until the blade has come to a complete stop.

Do not use this saw to make grooves (“stopped grooves”).

Do not move your hand past or over the blade.

Drill Press

When working on this machine, hair must be tied back and sleeves must be close-fitting. Safety glasses and hearing protection or earplugs must be worn.

It is forbidden to process plaster, concrete, or other ceramic materials on this machine!

When working with materials such as wood, cinder block, or similar materials, suitable respiratory protection must be worn.

The processing speed must be adjusted to the type of material being processed.

Before beginning processing, make sure that the workpiece is securely clamped using suitable fastening devices.

Do not hold the workpiece with your hands while drilling!

When working with large hole saws, there is a risk that the chuck may drop. In such situations, work at low speed.

When processing wood or similar materials, install a vacuum close to the chuck so that the work area remains free of chips and debris.

Do not use compressed air to clean the machine, either during or after work; vacuum it instead.

Do not bring your hands near the chuck while the machine is operating.

Miter Saw

(with or without a sliding arm)

When working on this machine, hair must be tied back and sleeves must be close-fitting. Safety glasses and hearing protection or earplugs must be worn.

The workpiece must be securely fastened to the machine before operating the saw.

The sliding-arm saw may be operated only by someone authorized by the workshop staff who has completed comprehensive training and personal instruction.

Everyone else must work under the supervision of a workshop staff member.

If you encounter a complicated cut that you have not performed before, you must call a trained staff member.

The machine must be cleaned after work is completed.

Do not work without a functioning saw guard! Do not bring your hands near the saw while it is operating.

Wood Sanding Machine

When working on this machine, hair must be tied back and sleeves must be close-fitting. Contact lenses may not be worn. Safety glasses and respiratory protection against dust must be used!

Pay attention to the direction of movement of the sanding belt, and do not hold the workpiece in a position where the belt’s movement pushes it against your hand!

Do not bring your fingers near the sanding belt under any circumstances!

Do not sand while wearing gloves.

It is strictly forbidden to sand metals on this machine, especially iron!

At the end of the work, the machine and surrounding work area must be left clean and vacuumed.

Battery-Powered Tools

Upon receiving the equipment, check that it is intact, including sanding sheets and similar items.

Do not use a drill bit, blade, or “head” that is defective or broken.

Before installing the battery, check that it is intact and not cracked, and report a faulty battery to the workshop supervisor.

Check that there has been no overheating or change in the color of the tool caused by fire or similar damage.

The battery-charging station for the equipment will be fixed to the wall and must not be moved.

Do not sand while wearing contact lenses.

Sink for Washing Hands and Face

Do not use this sink to clean paints, brushes, or containers containing thinner, turpentine, or any other non-water-soluble material.

Do not pour concrete, plaster, or any material that could clog the drain into the sink.

Compressed-Air Point

Please return the hose and accompanying equipment to their place after use.
