“Alice in Wonderland” – Anatoly Vaisman

A joint project by ArtUP and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

The magnificent, multifaceted, and beloved actor Anatoly Weisman stars in the literary-musical production Alice in Wonderland. It brings together different art forms on a single stage.

This production is for the whole family: for children who believe unconditionally in the impossible, and for adults who remember that the world is much broader than familiar logic and rules. Theater, music, animation, and visual imagery merge in a stage fantasy where reality and imagination constantly switch places.

A chamber ensemble of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra weaves the music of great composers—including Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Elgar, and other outstanding authors—into Lewis Carroll’s story, performed by Israel’s finest musicians.

Alice in Wonderland is not only a story about a bizarre world of fantasy, but also about childhood, growing up, and a child’s view of the complex and strange adult world. Carroll’s world is paradoxical, and that is precisely why it is so clear to both children and adults: to children, because its laws are close to the freedom of imagination; to adults, because it reminds them of the ability to be amazed, ask questions, and see the familiar from an unexpected perspective.

The combination of text, music, and Anatoly Weisman’s magnificent performance is complemented by original sand animation by artist Marina Sosnina and the artistic design of Sasha Khakhan. The characters step off the screen into the stage and auditorium, only to disappear once again into their fantastical world, creating a new dimension of the performance and inviting the audience to join Alice on a journey full of wonders, colors, and new meanings.
