The Truth Beneath the Robe – The Story of Eti Karyuf
A human legal thriller capable of leaving every audience, regardless of its position, riveted.
A girl from a moshav, the eldest daughter of parents who immigrated from India and Tunisia, who grew up in a patriarchal home and learned from an early age, through personal experience, to stand up for herself, fight for justice and equality, and insist on fulfilling every dream on a grand scale—even from a challenging starting point.
Eti completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law, as well as an additional degree in business administration. She served in the IDF as an industrial engineering and management practical engineer, and after her release worked at the Ministry of Defense and served in the police as a highly regarded police officer for approximately 14 years.
Karyuf was appointed to the bench in 2016 and earned widespread admiration for the professionalism and human approach she demonstrated toward everyone.
But overnight, her life was turned upside down.
A public storm that shook the country and her life transformed her from a promising and respected judge into a woman forced to fight for her good name amid a flood of objectifying headlines, online shaming, and criminal investigations that trampled her privacy while also exposing the inner workings of the judicial system, the law-enforcement system, and Israeli society as never before.
Since the case was closed, Eti chose to be reborn and, in a resounding interview on Uvda, to leverage the public trial she underwent under the auspices of the “gods of morality.”
The woman who lost everything—status, profession, livelihood, friends, and almost her family as well—turned her personal story into a tool for female empowerment.
Today, Eti Karyuf is a sought-after lecturer, author, panelist, defense attorney, and mediator who speaks honestly and courageously about the journey she has taken—from a story of painful downfall to a moving journey of revival.
This is a story about female strength that refuses to break, about facing formidable systems, and about determination, courage, and enormous personal costs from a young age—as well as the ability to choose life anew each time.
Eti’s lecture leaves the audience with genuine inspiration and the understanding that even after the lights go out, each person’s personal journey continues to resonate.
