A young ba’alat teshuvah, a few weeks after giving birth to her first son, comes to a female rabbi with an unbelievable claim: her husband has been replaced. From the outside, he looks exactly like the same person—but she knows he is not her real husband, only a double. She turns to the female rabbi because she fears that if she contacts the police, she will be hospitalized against her will.
While the female rabbi believes this is a mental episode connected to the first birth, the rabbi believes it is a passing spiritual crisis—a product of the ba’alei teshuvah world that took one midrash a step too far. From here, the plot becomes increasingly complicated, turning into a turbulent journey between reality, faith, love, and identity. My One and Only is a multi-character mystery drama that examines the changes we undergo within relationships—and the question of whether the person before us remains the same person over the years, or whether we all keep being replaced again and again.
