Lecture by Itai Anghel, winner of the Sokolov Prize for Journalism and an International Emmy Award nominee

Dramatic Days in Iran

In a dramatic journey featuring exclusive documentary footage from the borders of Iran, Syria, Iraq, Gaza, and Lebanon, Itai Anghel takes us from the massacre of October 7 to the historic days we are experiencing now, and the anticipation of seeing what will—or will not—happen in Iran.

  • How has the map of the Middle East changed?
  • Who are the Iranians fighting to overthrow the regime, and is the regime itself in danger of collapse?
  • Does the collapse of Assad’s regime in Syria signal the end of the “Axis of Resistance”?
  • And who is al-Julani, who has taken his place? A jihadist or a partner?

A Winning Sentence

“The more open I am to learning, trying, and daring, the more interesting a person and a better lecturer I will be.

I believe that in order to truly get to know a place and its people, I must reach them in the field.

When I am there, I always listen to all opposing sides.”

The Lecture’s Main Message

Itai Anghel is the only Israeli correspondent who has been covering conflicts in the Middle East and around the world for 30 years.

In his lecture, he will bring us an up-to-date picture from the field of the new forces emerging in our neighborhood, and of how the map of the Middle East as we knew it is coming apart.

A Few Words About the Lecturer

Itai Anghel is one of Israel’s leading journalists, a correspondent for the program Uvda on Channel 12, and the only Israeli journalist to report from the front lines against ISIS in Syria and Iraq. For the past 20 years, his main work has focused on covering conflict zones around the world.

The international interest in Anghel’s work brought him to the TEDx Palo Alto stage, where, in his lecture I’m Going to War Zones, and I’m the Normal One, he spoke about the behind-the-scenes realities of working as an Israeli in the most dangerous places in the Middle East.

In his reports, Anghel has focused on many subjects related to international conflicts. He received a commendation from the Sokolov Prize committee for his ongoing and commendable reporting from Bosnia and Herzegovina, becoming the youngest journalist to receive it.

Itai also won the Sokolov Prize in 2017. Among other things, the committee members wrote:

“The prize for excellence in journalistic work and for leaving a mark on electronic media is awarded to Itai Anghel for making war zones and distant, raging conflicts accessible to Israeli viewers, while assuming no small degree of personal risk. Over approximately thirty years of work, Itai Anghel has excelled at highlighting the human aspect of wars, victims, and suffering.”
