Lecture: The Indian Experience from the Ganges River Worship to the Tropical South

A pilgrimage, worship, and faith on the banks of the Ganges River in India. Indians believe that the holy waters of the Ganges have the power to cleanse the soul of its sins, thanks to the goddess Ganga who resides in the river's waters. Millions of Indians save every penny throughout their lives to allow for the pilgrimage to the sacred river. Bathing in the water is believed to purify their souls and prepare them for a better reincarnation in the next life. The preferred city for Ganges worship is Varanasi, home of the god Shiva. It is an extraordinary and unique city where bustle and holiness, spiritual people and beggars, death and life mix. In this lecture, we will explore the worship and life around the Ganges River, continue following the heroes of the film to the tropical southern part of India, and to the Ashram of Amma, the hugging mother, a spiritual and social leader working for a better and more compassionate world.
