Take 5 - Between Bach and Brubeck with saxophone virtuoso Steve Wilson
Steve Wilson & Alon Nechushtan Quartet (New York)
A tribute show to the intriguing encounter between two musical worlds – classical music and jazz. In the spirit of the Third Stream, which developed in the second half of the 20th century, a unique dialogue is created between structures and harmonies from the classical tradition and the freedom, groove, and improvisation of jazz.
The quartet of musicians – Steve Wilson, Alon Nechushtan on piano, Yorai Oron on bass, and Dani Benedikt on drums – presents a rich program that combines works that have become milestones in the meeting of styles. Among the pieces in the program are Take Five by Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond, "Homage to Bach" by Oscar Peterson, "Homage to Chopin" by Dave Brubeck, and Blues Baroque by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet.
The influence of the Third Stream extended beyond the jazz world and also influenced creators in jazz-rock. For example, Keith Emerson, influenced by the music of Aaron Copland, created dramatic connections between classic and progressive rock. The show will also feature the piece Jerusalem by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.
An evening of rich musical mosaic where the boundaries of style blur – an exciting new encounter between classical, jazz, and improvisation!
