Yossi Banai was a one-of-a-kind stage artist and one of the distinctive voices in Israeli culture: an actor, songwriter, and storyteller—a man of words who gave every text an unforgettable theatrical stamp.
In this new lecture, we will explore the songs he wrote, his writing for HaGashash HaHiver, the brilliant and tearfully funny sketches he created, and his masterful Hebrew performances of songs by Georges Brassens and Jacques Brel, two of the greatest French chanson artists.
Together, we will examine his ability to bridge humor and pain, between the marketplace in Jerusalem and the alleyways of Paris. The lecture features a wealth of video clips of unforgettable song performances and iconic sketches that have become part of the Hebrew language.
Dr. Avi Alon is a researcher and lecturer on poetry throughout Israel. He appears on Radio 103fm and Galei Tsahal, discussing the stories behind the great songs.
The coffee cart will be open before the event for your convenience.
