Prophetic Sticks – Jerusalem East-West Orchestra
As part of the 2026-27 season of the Jerusalem East-West Orchestra.
Musical Arrangement and Direction: Tom Cohen
More than a quarter of a century ago, the debut album of "Prophetic Sticks" was released, marking a specific moment in time. It featured connections between styles that had not been combined before, and lyrics that remain stunning to read even today. Caribbean rhythms of reggae met texts speaking about peace and good neighborliness here in the Middle East; Arabic music accompanied ideas of renewed Judaism; and everyone who delved into it keeps a warm and good place for this album to this day.
In this series, we invite the wonderful Avraham Tal, former member of Prophetic Sticks, to the front of the stage for a full performance of this masterpiece album alongside some of his huge solo hits. To complete the celebration, guitarist Ilan Bar-Lev will join us, connecting all the styles and flavors that move between Mexico and Jerusalem in his sound.
