How a Song Was Born: A Tribute to The 16th Sheep – Yoav Kootenay, 45 Years Later
45 years after its birth, the "16th Sheep" project is experiencing an unprecedented comeback. This modest children's book, written by Yehonatan Goffen, was then set to music (primarily) by Yuval Dor and performed by four fresh stars of Israeli music: Judith Rabinovitz, Gadi Govrin, David Broza, and Yuval Dor, along with the author himself, who also had experience performing on stage. Hits included "How a Song Was Born," "Closed Garden," "The Prettiest Girl in Kindergarten," "When I Grow Up," "I Love You" (composed by Itzik Kalpater), and more.
It started with very few performances, a few TV clips, and countless radio plays... even on programs not aimed at children. In no time, it became a hysterical hit known and loved by all. A timeless classic that has received many reimaginings and interpretations, including by the participants themselves, turning "The 16th Sheep" into the most successful children's album of all time.
