Featuring singer Caroline Mhlanga and a rich musical ensemble, the event offers a musical journey spanning over a century of jazz history with a contemporary and authentic vibe. A celebration of swing, groove, and soul – Creole music, blues, and boogie-woogie.
The Barrelhouse Jazzband, one of the most prominent and successful ensembles in the international traditional jazz scene, is Europe’s oldest independent jazz band, active continuously since 1953 without institutional sponsorship. With performances in 58 countries across five continents and a striking presence on major world stages, the band brings alive, breathing jazz – music that knows and respects its roots but sounds entirely here and now. They present a rich selection of masterpieces from classic jazz and blues, New Orleans music, and Creole jazz, alongside newer original works – a journey spanning more than a hundred years of jazz history. Their music is expressive and diverse, deeply rooted in the authenticity of the blues and seasoned with a touch of “showmanship” that makes the experience unforgettable. Barrelhouse Jazzband takes old jazz, reignites it, and gives it a completely contemporary vibe. Tradition with a groove – looking forward.
