A series of lectures and concerts by creator Gil Shohat, based on the Ten Sefirot and the Twenty-Two Letters, connecting philosophical foundations with musical works. This session will examine the element of life and death cycles through a performance of Mozart's Requiem. The meeting includes an in-depth analysis of the work, the composer, and its cultural, philosophical, and historical context.
The Concept
Gil Shohat’s new series constitutes a musical world-building project. The Ten Sefirot are translated into ten foundational elements, and the twenty-two letters become twelve tones. Thus, the story is constructed—using the 22 letters that create the world and man. Each meeting is dedicated to one (or two) Sefirot that form a foundation of the world and humanity, linked by Gil Shohat to a singular masterpiece that embodies its essence.
The works themselves, along with parallel pieces, are performed at each session, featuring in-depth analysis and discussion of the composition, the composer, and its cultural, philosophical, and historical context. The works will be screened and heard in exemplary performances, some in rare renditions. This is a healthy, original, and unique musical and intellectual concert season in Kfar Saba!
