I want you to know that my mother and I have exactly the same hands.
Feminine, but coarse, with very dry skin and nails that grow long and strong.
My grandmother Gracia had them too, and my daughter inherited them.
I want you to know that with our hands, we can do many things: cut vegetables directly over the pot, braid a quick plait, caress, scratch, pinch really hard, and also perform.
We can breathe characters into them and travel with them to different places.
I want you to know that in this performance, you will see my hands and hear my voice. I will bring you into my home—and into my head.
I want you to come, and to stay afterward to talk, because we are alive.
“With minimalist means and extraordinary talent, actress Meital Raz has created in A Small Death a profound, charming performance filled with love, one that finds the comic in the tragic and vice versa.”
—Naama Shabtai, Haaretz
“With ten fingers and a few small objects, Meital Raz creates a magical world and takes the audience on a journey among characters, stories, and places. It is original, different, funny, surprising, and touching.”
—Maya Nahum Shachal, Calcalist
