Matti Caspi, who recently passed away at the age of 76, was the most creative, versatile, and prolific Israeli musician active in Israel since the early 1970s.

He loved everything from Brazilian to Balkan music, from Black funk, rock, and reggae to blues, Moroccan music, classical music, and children’s songs. In his compositions and arrangements, he incorporated his many influences and passions into original, personal creations whose impact on the sound of new Israeli music was unprecedented.

Caspi composed and arranged hundreds (!) of major hits, for himself and for female singers, male singers, and bands:

“Ve’Otach,” “Brit Olam,” “Makom Lada’agah,” “Shir HaYonah,” “Eich Zeh SheKochav,” “Yemei Be’erot,” “Noah,” “Kalbav Ha’Ho Bidei Bam Bam,” “Ma Zot Ahavah,” “Lakachat Et Yadi Beyadech,” “Mishehu,” “Lo Yadati SheTelchi Mimeni,” “Lo Dibarnu Od Al Ahavah,” “Lo Tov Heyot HaAdam Levado,” “Chalomot Shmurim,” “Od Yom,” “Kshe’Elohim Amar BaPa’am HaRishonah,” “Yemei Binyamina,” “Hineh Hineh,” “Zot Yalduti HaShniyah,” “Ima,” “BaLaylot HaKayitz HaChamim,” “Im Telchi Achshav,” “Merוב Ahavah,” “Achoti HaKtana,” “Nachli’eli,” “Od Yavo HaYom,” and many, many more—several hundred in all.

Yoav Kutner, an admirer who became a friend, presents the secret behind Matti Caspi’s timeless magic in a performance featuring rare recordings, special video clips, meetings between Caspi and other artists, excerpts from conversations, and even classic Matti Caspi jokes.
