Joint Camp #9 | Nonsense - هراء
"Joint Camp" is an artistic tradition of the Matresha School of Art at Beit Berl, inviting viewers to contemplate the creative process itself. For seven years, the project was held at the Matresha Gallery in Tel Aviv; this is the second time it has been hosted at galleries in Kfar Saba—this time at the Artists' House Gallery.
This is an ongoing art project that places the joint creative process at its center. The gallery becomes a living laboratory where artists work side by side, relinquishing the boundaries of the private studio and experimenting with real-time group creation. Each year, the project examines concepts such as community, residency, collective work, and human dialogue as fundamental components of art.
This initiative explores the ability of dialogue and human connections to become raw material in artistic creation. It highlights the unique encounter between Jewish and Arab creators and demonstrates how this collaboration—a long-standing strength of the project—has become even more crucial in recent times.
"Joint Camp #9" offers a rare glimpse into real-time group creation. For just two weeks, the gallery will be transformed into an intensive workshop where creators will step away from the comfort and isolation of the private studio and work together in a shared space. A process usually hidden from view crystallizes into a collective experiment where the work, the encounter, and the dynamics between the artists generate a living, multi-dimensional exhibition.
This year's exhibition theme is "Nonsense"—a space where logic is subverted, and absurdity, mystery, and strangeness become the starting point for creation. Nonsense eludes any attempt to explain or interpret it unambiguously. Even when it seems to have meaning, it slips away and exceeds ordinary logic and the boundaries of the possible. It deliberately rejects accepted meanings and aesthetic rules, dismisses the need for a single correct answer, and allows new meanings to grow out of chaos. In nonsense, there is no single correct interpretation—there is no logic in nonsense. Precisely from this uncertainty, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect, imagine, err, and discover new possibilities of thought and encounter.
