Ikebana workshop led by Mayo Zadoff at the Yohannani Community Center in Herzliya. Learn basic principles and create a personal Japanese flower arrangement.
Join us for a fascinating workshop where you will learn about the refined art of Japanese flower arrangement, offering you a glimpse into Japanese philosophy, culture, and way of life.
Together with Mayo Zadov, an ikebana artist, we will delve into a world of aesthetics, nature, and creativity through observation and attentiveness.
Ikebana is a method based on minimalism and simplicity, bringing the nature around us into the home. According to this method, you can—and should—use everything around you, not only flowers, to add beauty to the home. Dry branches and fallen leaves can also be used in an arrangement, representing the entire cycle of life around us.
Unlike the conventional Western approach to flower arranging, the ikebana method does not require the use of many flowers. In this way, every item in the arrangement is given a place of honor and its beauty is emphasized.
In the workshop, we will learn the basic principles of the art of ikebana and understand how they fit into the concept of Japanese aesthetics. We will create a basic ikebana arrangement ourselves (if time permits, perhaps even two) and drink a cup of hot tea in a warm atmosphere.
The workshop includes all the necessary equipment, flowers, and special floral foam for creating arrangements at home, so that each participant can recreate what she learned at home.
Mayo Zadov was born in Osaka, Japan, and from childhood was surrounded by a love of flowers and the natural beauty they bring with them. From a young age, she found inspiration in the natural world—in colors, shapes, and the quiet moments that flowers create around them.
She began studying ikebana—the Japanese art of flower arrangement—in 2004, while studying as a student, and has continued to deepen her knowledge of Japanese aesthetics ever since, מתוך a deep personal connection to the art, nature, and way of life it represents.
Through her work, Mayo brings together ancient Japanese tradition and moments of creativity, observation, and simplicity, inviting participants to discover the beauty found even in the smallest details.
