A young woman who has become religious, just a few weeks after giving birth to her first child, comes to the rabbanit and claims that her husband has been replaced. He looks exactly the same from the outside, but he is not the same person—he is an impostor. She simply knows. She turns to the rabbanit because she fears that if she goes to the police, they will hospitalize her.

The rabbanit, for her part, believes hospitalization is the right course of action: a young woman after her first birth, most likely experiencing the onset of mental illness. The rabbi thinks otherwise. As far as he is concerned, this is a story about newly religious people who have taken one midrash too literally, and it would be best to let the matter pass on its own. But nothing passes on its own, and from this point everything only becomes more complicated.

My One and Only is a multi-character mystery drama that uses this extraordinary story to ask a simple and disturbing question: To what extent does the person we love remain the same person over the years? A film about the changes we undergo within relationships, about faith in love and falling in love—and about the distance that sometimes opens up between them.
