Artificial intelligence is extraordinarily smart and has the potential to change our lives for the better. It behaves like a human, so we tend to talk about it and to it as if it were a person. But that is the deceptive part of this revolution—artificial intelligence is a machine; it is not only smart, but also amusingly and astonishingly stupid. What are the fundamental problems of artificial intelligence systems? How can we ensure that artificial intelligence serves us and changes our lives for the better, rather than developing an independent agenda of its own that could threaten us? In what ways can we address the potential threat?
