Group Exhibition “Making a Scene”

In Hebrew, “laasot stzena” means to make a scene: to do something noticeable and provocative, to attract attention.
But a scene is also an artistic field: exhibitions, studios, people, and the connections between them.

This exhibition is about those who do not wait for an invitation, but create opportunities themselves. At its center is the studio of Anna Lukashevski, from the “New Barbizon” group, on Hasan Shukri Street in Haifa, and the circle of immigrant artists that formed around it. The walls feature works by 17 artists, their stories, posters from local exhibitions of recent years, and a map of connections: who brought whom, who studied with whom, and who opened the studio door to whom.

For us, this is an example of civic initiative. Every story here is about choosing to act: taking the future into one’s own hands, mobilizing available resources, and building the scene oneself.

The exhibition presents strategies that usually remain behind the scenes: how to turn a café into a gallery, a balcony into a studio, and an acquaintance into a professional network. It explores the mechanisms of an artistic community and what happens when people take initiative into their own hands.

The exhibition is being held as part of a campaign by the “Centers for Social Justice” nonprofit to encourage immigrant participation in the Knesset elections on October 27.
