A historical tour of Hadar HaCarmel in Haifa, lasting approximately 3.5 hours and including stops, photographs, and rare objects. The date was not specified; meeting point: HaNevi'im, Haifa.
The tour marking 100 years since the founding of Hadar HaCarmel
You are invited to a tour that is the product of many years of self-directed research in the Hadar area of Haifa. This in-depth and comprehensive tour will take us through the many layers of Hadar’s urban evolution, including stories that will be presented for the first time, with urban explanations and analyses of the relationship between the local topography, people, and construction; the movement of Haifa’s Jewish residents from the Old City toward Hadar; and the development of the streets in the area, accompanied by historical photographs and reconstructions of places that once existed.
We will follow the architectural styles, with the addition of rare artifacts and stories connected to paving patterns specifically associated with Haifa. The tour is presented as a continuous chronological narrative conveying the story of the local evolution on site.
For the first time, the tour will feature rare objects connected to the route, conveying the building processes in a tangible and moving way at several stops along the way, as well as rare items connected to cinema (there are three cinemas along the route).
You will experience, for the first time, Haifa’s developing Hebrew city—Hadar HaCarmel—and the stories of the longstanding local Jewish community.
The tour is accompanied by rare items, firsthand stories from research I conducted over the years with people who are no longer with us, rare photographs from those families, stories of the discoveries, and the fascinating process through which they were uncovered.
