The film 'Ritual' examines Israeli society in a year of great trauma, focusing on rituals in public space as a means to find comfort and agency. The film portrays an image of a divided and polarized society, with a look also at the landscape of Gaza. After the screening of the film, a conversation with the creators will take place.

An examination of Israeli society in the year it confronted the greatest trauma in its history. "Ritual" does not focus on major events, but turns its gaze inward, to the margins of the unfolding drama. Moving between events and locations across the country, it paints a picture of a divided and polarized society seeking solace and agency through rituals in public space: from memorial ceremonies, to protests and escapist events, up to national marches and religious rites. Through a variety of rituals, people respond to reality and attempt to reshape it. Meanwhile, the view repeatedly returns to the increasingly devastated landscape of Gaza, an image that itself becomes a national ritual.
80 minutes, Hebrew language, Hebrew subtitles. A conversation with the creators will take place after the screening.
