Oil Painting Masterclass: Copying a Dutch Still Life
If you admire the works of old masters and would like to have a copy of a famous painting created by your own hands at home, this masterclass is for you!
Starting July 3, an oil painting masterclass on copying a Dutch still life will be held at Gennady Shonts’ studio in Haifa.
The oil painting course "Dutch Still Life" will introduce you to the basic principles of creating a classic painting using oil paints. You will master the technique of thin-layer painting and gain invaluable experience in copying classical samples of still life art.
On this course, you will:
- Learn methods and techniques used by old Dutch masters when working on paintings;
- Learn about glazing methods in oil painting and try using the multi-layer painting technique in practice;
- Discover how artists of the old European school used textural brushstrokes to achieve various effects when creating paintings;
- Practice painting fruits, flowers, glassware, reflections on metal surfaces, and various fabric textures—all the elements that make Dutch painting so renowned.
In short, you are in for a wonderful immersion into a world where everything is abundant, beautiful, and harmonious, where prosperity and happiness reign.
No national school of painting knew such a vigorous flourishing of still life. It was only the Dutch master’s ability to see a fragment of existence in the smallest detail that raised this genre to leading status. The heyday of classic painting occurred in the 17th century, but to this day, contemporary painters seek to unlock the secrets of the old masters.
This course will allow you to open the door to the mysterious world of still life using examples from reproductions by Dutch masters (Willem Van Aelst, Gillis Gillisz de Bergh, Jan Jansz van de Velde, etc.).
Course Duration: 8 sessions
Schedule: One session per week, every Friday, from 10:00 to 12:00
Session Length: 2 hours each
After completing the course, you will have a wonderful oil painting on canvas in the style of old Dutch masters, which will delight you and your loved ones.
