Event 122 - Iraqi Party Without the Evil Eye
Tonight presents classic Iraqi music, which developed on the foundations of Chader Baghdad and included Jewish and Muslim artists. Eight young musicians and singers, from the second and third generations in Israel, breathe new life into the Iraqi hafleh. The event includes a live performance with talented female singers and musicians.
Iraqi Chafla – Without the Evil Eye, they came from Iraq and brought with them, along with memories, a rich musical world. Based on the foundations of Chelery Baghdad, they absorbed classical Iraqi music, many members of which were Jewish. Salima Pasha, the Jewish singer, and her partner Nazem al-Jazli conquered stages and hearts, even though he was Muslim and she was Jewish. The orchestra’s musicians made Aliyah to Israel carrying their instruments, inspired by the Zionist spirit breathing between the strings. This evening, eight young musicians and singers will take the stage, all Israeli-born, second- and third-generation Israelis bringing a new breeze to the Iraqi Chafla.
