Safe Room (USA, 2026)

On October 7th, amid hours of chaos, terror, and uncertainty, one home in Moshav Shva became a place where a new human family was built. Dr. Gdalya Pendel treated the wounded and refugees who came to him from the area, while his wife and children opened their door to dozens of additional people—children, a pregnant woman, an elderly couple, and families who fled for their lives. Among those who found shelter in the home were two siblings of Abigail Idan, after their parents were murdered and they hid for hours in a cabinet in their home. Out of incomprehensible moments of fear and loss, an extraordinary story was woven within the house—one of compassion, courage, resilience, and hope, and of how complete strangers became, in a single day, a family.

Pre-Screening Lecture

Before the screening, a preliminary lecture by Rinit Ribak, lecturer and adjunct instructor on cinematic representations of the Holocaust and multiculturalism in Israeli society.

Lecture Topic: Illuminating the Darkness: Moments of Grace and Humanity on Screen

Against the largest events of rupture and terror, the greatness of the human spirit is often revealed. The lecture will take us on a journey through cinematic works centered on human stories of choosing compassion, mutual responsibility, and grace.
