Andrew and Daniela travel to Goa, India, to meet their adopted daughter, Sarvari, and fulfill a lifelong dream. But when the four-year-old refuses to leave the orphanage she calls home, their plans begin to unravel. Amid language barriers, cultural differences, and expectations that clash with reality, the journey becomes an emotional struggle that confronts them with a world they do not know. Through the encounter between cultures, they are forced to reconsider the meaning of family, parenthood, and belonging—and the way connection, trust, and a sense of home are formed.
Embracing the Chaos: Cultural Codes in India and the Western Perspective
Through Western eyes, India is often perceived as a place of complete chaos, but beneath the surface lies a highly formal society, with a clear social order and defined internal rules. In the lecture, we will uncover the cultural and social codes underlying the film A Mosquito in the Ear, discuss the power relations between India and the West, and examine how they are expressed in the film.
