A moving and comedic drama about a group of women in Me'a She'arim who rebelled against community leadership to save one of their own from a miserable and abusive marriage. The neighborhood women decide that the value of mutual aid to a woman in distress outweighs even the commandment of procreation. They confront the authorities with courage, refuse to go to the mikveh, and begin a course of abstaining from marital life. In their turbulent journey, they suffer excommunication and persecution, but despite the heavy price, they continue their course until their friend is freed from the chains of her marriage.
