Jacques’ Barbershop – An Original Production
Jacques—the first barber in Ashdod—is the narrator.
In both senses of the word: he cuts hair, and he tells stories. Through the characters who come in and out for haircuts—sailors, market workers, ordinary people from Quarter A—a mosaic is revealed before us: the small stories of ordinary people that together paint a picture of a city being built. Woven into this mosaic is a personal story—a true love, a fall and betrayal, addiction and atonement, and a return to the truth. Jacques tells it without shouting, through the characters who come and go, until his story and the city’s story become one.
