Everyone knows Albert’s legendary fish shop in Ashdod’s Alef Quarter. All his life, he dreamed of telling stories and jokes, but his father, Morris, wouldn’t agree:
“This is a fish shop, Albert, not a barbershop. Stories are told in a barbershop.”
He thought he would never get the chance to take the stage. But this afternoon, when a performance at the Ashdod Neighborhood Theater Festival was canceled, a good friend begged him to come urgently and perform in his place.
Albert, who had just gotten off the boat with his fishing rod still in hand, got the opportunity he had been waiting for all his life. This time, it was really happening.
Albert unfolds a beach chair, pours the audience shots of arak, and excites them with stories about people who lived in the past—a fascinating human mosaic portraying Ashdod from the 1960s to the present day.
He creates unexpected moments and eruptions of uncontrollable laughter, and in the end sends everyone home with a smile on their face.
