In the Mea Shearim neighborhood, a group of women decided to rebel against the leadership of their community to save one of their own from a miserable and violent marriage. They use the only ancient and effective weapon at their disposal: abstaining from their husbands. They refuse to go to the mikveh and initiate a course of avoiding marital relations until their friend is freed from the bondage of her marriage.
"The Rebels" is an emotional and funny drama by Amnon Levy, which brings a women's struggle for equality in the most unexpected place. The women of the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood decide that the value of mutual assistance to a woman in distress outweighs even the commandment to be fruitful and multiply. They bravely confront the men, endure boycotts and persecution, and still continue their fight despite the heavy price.
