About the Show
Three actresses bring three biblical female figures to life: Sarah the Matriarch, Naomi, and the Concubine of Gibeah. They place them at center stage and allow them to reveal their truths within the familiar biblical stories.
Sarah, who was childless; Naomi, a widow without a husband or children; and the Concubine of Gibeah, who “prostituted herself” to her husband, are regarded as women who fail to meet the requirements of a “good woman”: being married, fertile, having many children, and remaining faithful.
In biblical times, women who deviated from the accepted path were called witches and whores, persecuted, and banished to live beyond the wall, in no-man’s-land.
What personal price do these women pay in order to fulfill the destinies defined for them, and what happens when they challenge the values and laws they know?
The show offers a fresh reading of biblical stories from a contemporary perspective, examining the foundations that shaped Israeli Jewish society.

God’s Girlfriends is by the BLACKBOX Theatre Group, led by director Yael Selor. The group works to promote social change and gender equality by creating performances intended to transform perceptions and consciousness.
The performances bring new interpretations of familiar myths and stories to the stage from a contemporary, feminine perspective, as a means of inspiring, illuminating, and paving the way toward creating a better reality.
They have been presented at the Cameri Theatre, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and cultural halls throughout the country, reaching the hearts of tens of thousands of viewers.
