About the activity

Join us for a special Rosh Hashanah holiday in the heart of the desert, amid the open landscapes of Ramon Crater, desert trails, and the holiday atmosphere. During the holiday, we will combine tours through primordial landscapes, spectacular viewpoints, a special nighttime activity, and a festive holiday meal—a desert experience for the whole family.

Friday – Welcoming the New Year amid the crater landscapes

15:00 | Check-in and settling into rooms at Har HaNegev Field School

17:00–18:30 | Sunset tour at the Mitzpe Ramon Sculpture Garden

We will drive to the Sculpture Garden, located on the edge of Ramon Crater. We will walk among the rock sculptures integrated into the desert landscape and enjoy a spectacular view of the crater at sunset.

We will welcome the New Year together in a festive atmosphere, with apples and honey and grape juice.

19:00–20:00 | Holiday meal

Festive dinner.

20:30–22:00 | Scorpion tour in the orchard

As darkness falls, we will set out on a nighttime tour of the Field School orchard. Using special lighting, we will search for desert scorpions and learn firsthand about the fascinating nocturnal natural world of the Negev.

Saturday – Hiking in the heart of Ramon Crater

08:00–09:30 | Breakfast and collection of a packed meal

09:30 | Check-out and vacating the rooms

10:00 | Departing for a hike at Harut Hill

We will set out on a family-friendly trail in the heart of Ramon Crater, to one of the area’s most impressive viewpoints—Harut Hill. The trail passes through ancient desert landscapes and leads to Harut Hill, an ancient volcanic remnant that stands out in the crater landscape. We will ascend a path to the hilltop and enjoy a sweeping view from its summit over Makhteshim Valley, Ardon Stream, and the expanses of Ramon Crater.

Difficulty level: A classic route for hiking families, including a short, steep ascent to the hilltop.

The program includes lodging, dinner, breakfast, a packed lunch, and, of course, high-quality professional guiding based on an intimate familiarity with the local nature.

The holiday includes full-board accommodation at Har HaNegev Field School:

• Air-conditioned ground-level guest rooms, each with a private bathroom and shower
• Kosher kitchen and dining room (there is no self-catering kitchen)
• Air-conditioned classrooms equipped for guided activities, study days, and conferences
• Clubhouse with a coffee/tea corner and television
• Synagogue
• Campfire area, sheltered outdoor seating area, and a view of Ramon Crater
• Dinner, breakfast, and a packed lunch
