A lecture by Meir Itkin on Moroccan mysticism will take place online via Zoom on September 3 at 7:30 p.m. Israel time. Jinn and Jewish-Muslim practices will be discussed.
On September 3 at 7:30 p.m. Israel time, we will speak on Zoom with Meir Itkin about a world in which Jewish and Muslim mystics, alchemists, miracle workers, and ancient legends coexisted side by side—legends that still amaze the imagination.
We will examine the typology of Moroccan jinn, including their religious, color, and gastronomic preferences.
We will discuss the “angelic writing” technique, as well as how pairs of couscous transform into the seven-headed Iblis.
Special attention will be given to the family life of men and jinni in Jewish and Muslim practice.
Meir Itkin is a curator of Haifa’s museums, curator of an exhibition on the folk art of Moroccan Jews, a writer, and a cultural scholar.
