Sifting Soil from the Kishle Excavations at the Tower of David

Join the children in sifting through dirt from the excavations at the Kishle structure and discover findings from the First Temple period: pottery, ceramics, bullae, and more. All discovered items will be systematically recorded and transferred to the Israel Antiquities Authority. Come be a part of history!

Before the sifting activity, we will conduct a family tour of the gallery and the Kishle building.

Activity Schedule:

Part One: Museum Tour –
We will visit the gallery that narrates the thrilling story of Jerusalem through the ages, featuring interactive screens, video clips, and ancient findings. From there, we will proceed to the historic Kishle building, where there are rare findings, fascinating stories, and testimonies from the days of the First Temple to the underground fighters during the British Mandate period.

Part Two: Sifting Activity at the Fortress Moat –
We will start with dry sifting to find artifacts, continue with wet sifting by soaking and washing the findings in water, and conclude with sorting the findings and summarizing the activity.
The activity is messy (and that’s part of the fun!), so please come in closed shoes.

The activity will be guided and is intended for families with children ages 5-11.
